We have several inquiries how to set-up Paypal Account from our client. Most of the have problem with bank officer which they are not sure of the actual procedure. Thus many bank officer told them it is impossible to use Debit Card to set up Paypal Account. Some even say told my client that “Debit Card” cannot make online purchase. Funny?!? Debit card bearing Visa and MasterCard and have almost the same facilities as a credit card except you need to have cash in your account in order for you to spend it online. Beside that, you can also withdraw Paypal Money via Debit Card but it will be another tutorial.

Here we have 13 easy Step-by-Step how to set-up your paypal account with Credit/Debit Card:

Step 1:

Go to: https://www.paypal.com/my (IMPORTANT: Make sure it is “https://” which means secured)

Step 2:

Click on “Sign Up” and will bring you to next step.

Step 3:

Choose your country. In this case, we choose “Malaysia” as preference country.

Step 4:

Choose either Personal or Premier or Business. What is the differences?

• Personal: Recommended for individuals who shop and pay online, or wish to send or receive personal payments for shared expenses such as splitting of dinner bills or rental charges. We don’t recommend that sellers open a Personal account to receive online payments, as the transaction fees are higher.
• Premier: Recommended for casual sellers or non-businesses who wish to get paid online, and who also make online purchases.
• Business: Recommended for merchants who operate under a company/group name. It offers additional features such as allowing up to 200 employees limited access to your account and customer service email alias for customer issues to be routed for faster follow-ups.

Step 5:

Enter your email address. IMPORTANT: This will be your login name and also email that your going to received money if you are doing online business.

Step 6:

Fill Up the rest of the details

Step 7:

IMPORTANT: When you make online purchase with your Paypal, this will be your official mailing address. Enter 100% accurate. This address MUST also the same as your registered address for Credit/Debit Card.

Step 8:

Click “Agree and Create Account”

Step 9:

Choose Pay with my Credit/Debit Card and Click “Continue”

Step 10:

VERY IMPORTANT: After step 9, you must login to your email and verify your email before continue Step 11. If you miss this step, you will have problem adding your Credit/Debit Card.

Step 11:

Enter your Credit/Debit Card details and make sure that your mailing address is the same as your registered Credit/Debit Card. RM10 will be charge by Paypal for verification purpose. This RM10 will be refunded once your Paypal Account is verified. Make sure that your Credit Card have sufficient credit or Debit Card have sufficient amount preferably more than RM20. Otherwise it will also have problem adding your card.

ERROR MESSAGE:

“Your credit or debit card has been declined for this transaction; PayPal could not validate the card. Please verify that the information you entered is correct, or try a different credit or debit card.”

Troubleshoot:

Most of people have problem at step 11 where paypal reject or decline Credit/Debit Card. When calling “Bank Customer Services” fails or helpless, here is a few thing you can do to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Make sure your email is verified.
2. Make sure your mailing address is the same as your registered credit/debit card.
3. Make sure your First Name & Last Name is the same as your NIRC or same as registered when you apply for Credit/Debit Card.
4. Paypal will charge RM10 upon “Continue” is clicked (Step 11). Make sure that your Credit Card have sufficient amount of credit to be charge. And Debit Card balance must be more than RM20 so Paypal will be enable to charge RM10.
5. If your Credit/Debit Card is new, you might need to activate Online Purchase Services so your credit/debit card can be charge online. Look at the picture below as this is a sample for Maybank.

Step 12:

You are almost there if you reach step 12.  Once you clicked “Get Verified” you need get a code from the bank. Proceed to step 13 which is the FINAL STEP of the process. I am going to teach you a short cut getting this code.

Step 13:

Congratulation when you reach this step. Unfortunately if you follow exactly what paypal teach you, you might need to wait for a month to “get verified”. I am going to show you the fastest way to get “VERIFIED” (Please take note that this might not work in some bank but you can try) Please see the step after the picture below.

After 1 or 2 hours when you reach step 11;

1. Call your bank and tell them that you have charge RM10 by paypal and ask them to give you the 4 digit code. Sometimes the Customer Service refuse to give but do not argue with them. Try next step.
2. Go Online Banking and find the Credit/Debit Card History or Transaction. (This may vary with difference online banking system)
3. If this 2 step above fails, you have to wait 24 hours after paypal charge RM10. Sometimes you need to wait 2 or 3 days depending on bank. My advise is, try to call the bank 2 or 3 times. You might get lucky.
4. If all the step fails, and you have waited more than 5 working days, something went wrong somewhere. Contact the Bank or Paypal for further assistance.

OUR SUMMARY:

Using Paypal is a safe way for online transaction. Whenever you need to purchase something online with your credit/debit card, your card information is very vulnerable to fraud cases. Paying with Paypal is the safest way so far. Make your purchase and check out with Paypal option. What Paypal will do is get money from your bank (the credit/debit card issuer) and pay to your seller withing seconds. Paypal will not give your bank credit/debit information to your seller.

There is 2 beauty buying with Paypal Account:

1. There is no Buyer fees. Only Seller fees. (Unless is agree upon Seller and Buyer where Buyer bear the fees)
2. When you pay with PayPal on any website PayPal Buyer Protection covers you if you have a problem. If an item doesn’t arrive or is significantly not as described we will help you to get a full refund.

To qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection:

• Use PayPal to complete your payment.
• Pay for the item with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments aren’t eligible.
• Let the seller know there’s a problem with the transaction by opening a dispute in the Resolution Center within 45 days of making your payment. Then, escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days of the date you opened the dispute.
• Keep your PayPal account in good standing.
